Limb Loss Education Day

The Amputee Coalition is kicking off the new year with Limb Loss Education Day – Phoenix on January 12, 2013, beginning at 9am. The event will be held at the Disabilities Empowerment Center (SpoFit), located at 5025 E. Washington St., Phoenix, AZ, 85034. This day of education and inspiration will begin with an informative presentation by Dr. Derek Higgins, DO, FAAPMR, FAOPMR, titled “Living a Full Life after Limb Loss.” We also have champion rock climber Ronnie Dickson, CP, presenting “Disabilities as an Opportunity,” as well as the “Triple-A Panel,” Active Amputees in Arizona, featuring Kevin Messner, Eric Bennett, Adriane Grimaldi, Matt Betzold, Mike St. Onge, Duane Wagner, Keith Rutledge-Keller, Tom Mancuso, Barb Guerra, Jessica Cox and Bill Harding.

The Orthotic & Prosthetic Activities Foundation (OPAF) will present not one, but two First Clinics! First Climb with Ronnie Dickson assists the limb loss community in overcoming life’s many challenges by teaching amputees how to “climb” up, over, and around obvious obstacles in their paths. First Swim with Jason Wening is designed to help the limb loss community feel comfortable in and around water, and to return to a beloved activity that they may have thought had been taken away from them. LLED – Phoenix will be a day that no one in the limb loss community will soon forget – and we do not want you to miss it!
